To date, there have been no FDA recalls of Zithromax.  However, on March 12, 2013, the FDA issued a safety communication in which they warned consumers of the cardiovascular problems associated with taking the antibiotic. They noted that using Zithromax could cause changes to the normal electrical activity of the heart that may lead to potentially fatal irregular heart rhythms. They also updated the drug label to warn patients of the cardiovascular risks associated with taking Zithromax.
