What is the Medtronic Infuse Bone Graft?

In 2002, the FDA approved the Medtronic Infuse Bone Graft to treat patients who suffered from degenerative disc disease and for open fractures of the tibia. The medical device contains rhBMP, which is a genetically engineered protein to stimulate bone growth and healing. Despite the FDA’s approval for the limited use of this device, surgeons across the country have used the Infuse bone graft off-label for cervical spine surgical procedures.
